Doing admin might not seem like the most exciting way to volunteer. But for lots of charities, volunteers provide the behind the scenes support needed for them to be able to continue their vital work.

To get the most out of your volunteering, it’s a good idea to choose a charity or issue close to your heart and contact them directly to see if they need admin support.

If you’re stuck for ideas to get started though, here are a few national charities that need admin volunteers to support their work.

Cancer Research UK need volunteer admin assistants to work in their 600 charity shops across the UK. You’ll be helping with the shop’s paperwork and collating information to report on its performance such as recording the number of different types of clothing sold each week. If you’re interested, the best thing to do is pop into your local shop to talk about your interests and find out which roles are currently available

They’ll provide all the training you need to feel confident in the role and you’ll also get the opportunity to study for a NVQ (National Vocational Qualification).

The NSPCC’s ChildLine also take on admin volunteers. You don’t need previous experience and you’ll be doing things like data inputting, working on reception or helping out with fundraising tasks.
