Just because you’ve had a criminal conviction, you can still volunteer. Although it will depend on what the conviction was for, how long ago and the type of volunteering that you’d like to do.

Some charities like nacro and SOVA might want you because of the experience that you can bring.

So try not to make assumptions about what you can and can’t do – it’s important to get accurate information and advice before you start.

For advice and ideas, try:

  • Unlock, the national charity for reformed offenders
  • Volunteering England has a section on Involving Ex-Offenders in Volunteering. It’s written for organisations who use ex-offenders as volunteers- but it’s got lots of useful information.
