From home

If you like being online or chatting on the phone, you can support people around the country from the comfort of your own home.

Here are a few examples of volunteering you can do in your slippers:

  • Horsesmouth.co.uk – relies on volunteers to mentor others online. Offer support on everything from family relationships to finance and changing careers.
  • UNOnline – share your skills, knowledge and ideas - from a computer anywhere in the world. You can chose an task that matches your skills, focus on a development topic and chose to support a specific region in the world.
  • Amnesty International – asks volunteers to join their e-networks to campaign for better human rights.
  • mySociety – is a community of volunteers that use the internet to bring about change. For example, you can report problems in your local area through Fix My Street (and they’ll notify your council for you). You can also volunteer for mySociety directly.
  • Deafblind UK  – become a penfriend with someone who is Deafblind. Deafblind UK will transcribe your letters into the relevant format such as Braille or large print. Or get involved in a pilot telebefriending scheme, where you befriend someone on a regular basis for up to an hour at a time.
