If you’re a qualified hairdresser, then your skills are in demand. Hospices and centres for people who are homeless are two examples of where you can give your time. You may not need professional qualifications, some places need hairdressing assistants and mangers to run the salons too.

  • Crisis works with single homeless people. Join their salon team  and give their guests a boost with a new hair-do. They do not recruit until October for the Christmas volunteers, but you can do other volunteering all year round in their centres in London and Newcastle.
  • The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow city centre works with people with illnesses that limit what they can do, particularly cancer. They have their own hairdressing salon that you can volunteer in.

You can also try typing in 'hairdressing and volunteering' in Google – you might be surprised to see what comes up!
