In school

Whether it was the best years of your life or you hated every minute, you can now go back to school as a volunteer.

It’s not just about teaching, you’ll be supporting young people to develop both academically and socially. Here are a few ideas of what you can do to make a difference.

  • Volunteer Reading Help - you can volunteer to help a child read in school. You’ll need to be able to commit to a minimum of one school year and spend three hours a week in school time over two 90 minute sessions.
  • Envision is a charity, working in schools and colleges to provide hands-on support with citizenship education, sustainable development and the environment. Volunteer as an Envision Youth Educator and you’ll work directly with young people in schools and colleges.

Try googling ‘voluntary action and schools’. There are lots of local organisations that promote volunteering in schools. For example Vmediahub, in Leicestershire, has great opportunities for 16-25 year olds wanting to get experience or volunteer in schools in the area.
